One of the most recent studies, conducted in the beginning of 2014, confirmed the hypothesis that people who use smart phones for business have more difficulties to psychologically “detach” themselves from their jobs, which, as a result, makes them more tired. Not being able to detach yourself from your work, even when you are physically away from your workplace, increases productivity for a short time. On the other hand, “working after work” also yields higher stress levels, which may lead to lower job performance, fatigue and sleep disorders. This is the reason why a lot of global companies are changing the way of doing business. It is interesting that Volkswagen turns off certain employees’ e-mails 30 minutes after their quitting time and BMW is implementing a new rule that will guard employees from being contacted after working hours.
